Reflections for 2009 and the decade

As we end this year and this decade I wanted to take a moment and reflect on this past year. This year we have been through a whole lot of “change” some good and some not so good. In my opinion our president made promises that he has not kept (no surprise there as most of them don’t).  As a society we have suffered greatly at the hands of greedy and unethical individuals and companies that feel that they are entitled to more than their fair share. We have seen actors, directors, politicians all behaving badly, this isn’t unusual per se just acknowledging that it has seemed like it has happened more than it has in previous years.

I know that I am a little behind on my blog and I am trying desperately to catch up. This past year has been mostly a disappointment for me. I have struggled immensely this year to make progress toward my goals. I am hoping that in 2010 that I will do better. I am going to be working very hard as I strive to finish my degree in a little over a year. I am looking forward to the challenge. I am going to try to get back on track with writing everyday with my blog because a lot of the things I will be learning I will want to share. The greatest part about being so busy will be plenty for me to write about. This will be great. It isn’t as though I haven’t had lots to write about so much as I haven’t felt the need to share. It is difficult to sit down some days and put into words what I am feeling or thinking. Most importantly I don’t like just writing for the sake of writing.

I am trying to help the world, to bring a little joy to others. If I am not feeling the joy or am able to articulate it then, how can I possibly make a difference? My words will be lost and more importantly the point of this blog will be for naught. Because of my change of major this blog will take a slightly different turn. The focus of course will continue to remain on faith and Jesus Christ but it will also be how the gospel of Jesus Christ can help elevate and uplift others out of the slums and the crime that they face. I’m hoping to take an in-depth look at how we as a civilization can “have no poor among us”. Now when I speak about “poor among us” I am referring not necessarily to monetarily poor but those that are poor in heart or poor in spirit. Those individuals that need the healing power of the atonement.
