Today is the first day of 179th Semi-Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints. Every six months the church holds a General Conference, this conference is held to build and uplift the Saints. It is much like when Jesus taught the Sermon on the Mount.  It is also like when King Benjamin addressed his people in The Book of Mormon.  The leaders of our church instruct and teach us principles of the gospel. Like apostles and prophets of old they give us God’s will for our lives for the upcoming time. We sustain the general leadership of the church by following their counsel. There are five sessions of the conference all of which are enjoyable and help to bring us as Latter-day Saints closer to our Savior. It is up to each individual to heed the counsel that is given. The leaders of the church also clarify doctrine and points of potential conflict. Several years ago I was able to attend a session of conference while I was in Salt Lake City, UT. It was a memorable and choice experience.

Today’s sessions were in keeping with the tradition, some speakers spoke with mild to moderate chastisement while others spoke only of our Saviors love for each of us. There is so much to learn and so much we as our Heavenly Father’s children can do better. I am not only looking forward to tonight’s Priesthood Session but also the upcoming weeks and months to try to become better.
